I only weighed 130 lbs. when I graduated from high school in 1965. When I was 20, I went on a weight gaining diet and put on 30 lbs. in just 6 weeks. I maintained that weight (160-165 lbs) for the next 30 years.
Health Discovery and Weight Gain
At age 23, just a couple of months after being married, I had a kidney stone attack. My blood was robbing my bones of its calcium; I’ve had 6 of those nasty things since. Now at the age of 66, I’m looking at having my knees replaced . . . that’s because doctors back in the 70’s claimed kidney stones were caused by eating too much calcium rich dairy products like milk and cheese – just the opposite of what we know today! I should have been taking a calcium supplement all these years.
Then I was in a clinical study and found I had a small case of Angina. I was placed on blood pressure medication at the age of 37. The medication slowed my metabolism and I soon began to gain weight. Both of my parents had Heart Disease and died because of it, I therefore began to worry about my own mortality.
I have always been and still am a workaholic! I had memberships in health clubs and ran 4 miles 4-6 times a week. But then over the next 10 years, the first thing that diminished was the running. The blood pressure medication really slowed me down and I ballooned up to 215 lbs. and my 6 pak abs were now in the 2 liter range!
Challenged Myself To Lose Weight
I challenge myself to reduce my weight back to 165 lbs.; and as of this writing, my weight is 170 lbs. – a loss of 45 lbs. as a Silver Membership with the Fuhrman Diet. Because of my knees and back, I have not had an exercise program. I watch what I eat and I (by habit) count my calories. I keep a daily record of what I consume (even when I sometimes cheat).
I can highly recommend Dr. Fuhrman and his diet program for losing weight and getting healthier. You don’t need to join a program to follow the Fuhrman Diet, and there are lots of free stuff and information on his website.
However, if you want some personal intervention with Dr. Fuhrman, his memberships can offer several levels of care, even private consultations.
